Getting Started

What is Monitope?
Monitope is a service that automatically monitors web page changes and notifies you when updates occur. Never miss price changes, stock availability, news article updates, or any changes on pages you care about.
How does monitoring work?
Monitope periodically checks registered URLs and detects content changes. When a change is detected, notifications are sent via email, Slack, Discord, Webhook, or other configured channels.
  1. Periodically access registered URLs at your configured interval
  2. Retrieve page content and compare with previous check results
  3. Send notifications according to your settings when changes are detected
What sites can I monitor?

Generally, any publicly accessible web page can be monitored. However, the following pages may not be monitorable:

  • Pages requiring login (partial support available)
  • Dynamically generated JavaScript content (use Visual mode)
  • Pages blocked by robots.txt
  • Pages requiring CAPTCHA or authentication
Is it free to use?

Yes, the Free plan is available at no cost.

  • Up to 10 monitors
  • 100 checks per month
  • 5 history items per monitor
  • Email notifications

Consider upgrading to a paid plan if you need more monitors or higher check frequency.

Monitor Settings

What's the difference between monitoring types (Full Page/Area/Visual)?
Type Description Recommended Use
Full Page Monitor all text on the page News articles, blog updates
Area Monitor only specific elements specified by XPath Prices, stock displays, financial indices
Visual Compare specific screen regions as images Banners, image changes
What is XPath and how do I get it?

XPath is a notation for specifying specific elements within an HTML page. Use it when you want to monitor only a specific part, like where a price is displayed.

How to get it in the monitor editor:

  1. Select "Area" as the monitoring type
  2. Click on the element you want to monitor in the preview
  3. XPath will be automatically filled in

You can also get it from Chrome DevTools: Right-click element → Inspect → Right-click element → Copy → Copy XPath

What check intervals can I set?

You can set intervals as short as every 10 minutes.

You can also choose from the following schedule types:

  • Interval: Check at regular intervals (10 minutes to 24 hours)
  • Daily: Check once a day at a specified time
  • Weekly: Check on specified days and times

Note: Check counts are applied to your monthly limit.

What is Numeric Monitoring Mode?

A feature for monitoring numeric changes like prices, stock quantities, or financial indices. You can set the following conditions:

  • Notify when below: When price drops below specified value
  • Notify when above: When stock rises above specified quantity
  • Notify on % change: When value changes by specified percentage
What is the Noise Filter?

A feature to ignore frequent but unimportant changes like "current time" or "view count" on pages.

  • Change threshold: Ignore changes below specified percentage
What are tags?

Labels for grouping and managing monitors. With tags, you can:

  • Filter monitor list by tag
  • Manage related monitors together
  • Configure notification channels (Slack, Discord, etc.) per tag

Notifications & Alerts

What notification methods are available?
  • Email: Notify to registered email address
  • Slack: Notify to Slack workspace channels
  • Discord: Notify to Discord server channels
  • Webhook: HTTP POST to any URL
What if I'm not receiving notifications?

Please check the following:

  1. Check spam folder: Email notifications may be filtered as spam
  2. Check notification settings: Verify "Enable notifications" is turned on for the monitor
  3. Check destination: Verify email address or Webhook URL is correct
  4. Check cooldown settings: Notifications from the same monitor are suppressed during cooldown period
  5. Check monthly limit: Checks stop when limit is reached
What is cooldown?

A feature to prevent continuous notifications from the same monitor.

For example, if cooldown is set to "1 hour", notifications from the same monitor are suppressed for 1 hour after sending.

Setting priority:

  1. Monitor-specific cooldown (set individually per monitor)
  2. User default cooldown (set in notification settings)
What is Daily Digest?

A feature that summarizes the day's changes into one notification. Useful when real-time notifications are too frequent.

  • Set up to 3 delivery times per day
  • Skip days with no updates

Troubleshooting

My monitor shows an error

Possible causes include:

  • Site unreachable: Target site may be down or URL may have changed
  • Access blocked: Target site may be blocking bot access
  • Invalid XPath: Site structure may have changed, specified element may no longer exist
  • Timeout: Site response may be too slow

You can check error details in the monitor's history screen.

💡 Try the Chrome extension

For dynamically generated JavaScript content or sites blocking bot access, the Chrome extension may provide more accurate monitoring.

Too many changes detected (false positives)

Try the following:

  • Use Area mode: Specify only the parts you want to monitor, ignore unrelated changes
  • Set Noise Filter: Configure change threshold to ignore minor changes
Changes not being detected

Possible causes include:

  • Monthly check limit reached: Check your plan's monthly check count
  • Monitor disabled: Verify the monitor's "Enabled" switch is on
  • JavaScript-generated content: Try Visual mode
  • Noise filter threshold too high: Lower threshold or disable filter

💡 Try the Chrome extension

For dynamically generated JavaScript content, the Chrome extension may provide more accurate monitoring.

I can't log in

Please check the following:

  • Verify email address is correct
  • Check password case sensitivity
  • Ensure Caps Lock is off
  • Try password reset if you forgot your password
